A Relaxation Tip from Annelies Vette

Staying balanced during your workweek hustle

When you are on holiday or in a yoga class, it can be so easy to feel balanced. And every single time you might decide that you really want to maintain this during your workday.

Why is it so difficult to stay balanced? It can be a real challenge and sometimes even a struggle to stay balanced or even feel what is going on. We tend to ‘live’ in our minds. We like to think. The way out of that is to get back into your body and listen to what it has to say.

This mini meditation will help you to connect to yourself again. Whenever you want, whatever you are doing. You only need a minute. And if that doesn’t work in your schedule, try do it for 10 seconds.

Sit comfortably in a chair. Make sure that your feet are flat on the floor. Take a deep breath through your nose into your belly and breath out slowly through your mouth. Place one hand on your heart. Keep breathing into your belly but also try to visualise that you breathe into your heart. Do this for a few rounds of breath. You will instantly feel more calm. 

You might even want to set a ‘take a breath alarm’ to actively remind you to pause. If you practise this for a while, you will be able to establish the same calm feeling, without putting a hand on your heart.
